Eighth Notes in 4/4 - Rhythm Pattern P523

Rhythm pattern P523 features combinations of eighth notes, quarter rests, and half rests in 4/4 time. There are four beats in each measure and the quarter rest is equal to one beat, the half rest is equal to two beats, and the eighth note is equal to half a beat. This pattern is four measures long, and it is repeated four times in the audio example. You can buy Time Lines Book 1 and see all of the rhythm exercises, patterns, melodies, and Time Games.

You will hear a voice count one measure (“1-and-2-and-3-and-4-and”) at which point you should start playing the pattern. Listen carefully to the count-off to enter at the right time. The metronome will sound on every beat for the entire example. The written music is included below, as well as an image of the Time Lines Color Blocks, which show the relative length and placement of every note and rest.
