Eighth Notes in 4/4 - Rhythm Pattern P526

Rhythm pattern P526 features combinations of eighth notes, quarter notes, half notes, and quarter rests in 4/4 time. There are four beats in each measure and the quarter note is equal to one beat, the half note is equal to two beats, and the eighth note is equal to half a beat. This pattern is four measures long, and it is repeated four times in the audio example. You can buy Time Lines Book 1 and see all of the rhythm exercises, patterns, melodies, and Time Games.

You will hear a voice count one measure (“1-and-2-and-3-and-4-and”) at which point you should start playing the pattern. Listen carefully to the count-off to enter at the right time. The metronome will sound on every beat for the entire example. The written music is included below, as well as an image of the Time Lines Color Blocks, which show the relative length and placement of every note and rest.

This pattern is played at 66 BPM (beats per minute) on the pitch concert C. In the third time through the pattern, the example sound will stop playing, but you should keep playing during that time so you can hear yourself clearly with the metronome. The example will play again during the fourth time through the pattern. If you would like to practice this pattern at a slower or faster tempo, visit the metronome section of Music All the Time.
