Two Beat Pickup Note Melody for Concert Band Instruments
Time Lines Melodic Phrase M705

Melodic Phrase M705 features pickup notes of two beats in 3/4 time. There are three beats in each measure and the quarter note is equal to one beat. This melody is four measures long, and it is repeated four times in the audio example. For samples of the melodies, visit the individual pages for your instrument, or buy the Time Lines Book 1. An image of the Time Lines Color Blocks is included below, which shows the relative length and placement of every note and rest.

You will hear a metronome count-off of two measures. The pickup notes begin on beat two of the second count-off measure. Listen carefully and count along with the count-off measures to enter at the right time. If you are having trouble with the rhythm of this melodic phrase, you can practice it by going to its corresponding Rhythm Pattern P705.

This melody is played at 80 BPM (beats per minute) and the music is arranged for woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. In the third time through the pattern, the example will stop playing, but you should keep playing during that time so you can hear yourself clearly with the metronome. The example will reenter in the fourth time through the melody. If you would like to practice this exercise at a slower or faster tempo, visit the metronome section of Music All the Time.
